Sculptra

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a dermal filler that has been used in Europe since 1999. It’s now gaining in popularity in the US after being FDA approved in 2004. Sculptra is made out of a synthetic Poly-L-lactic acid material. The natural form of Poly-L-lactic acid is produced by our muscles during vigorous workouts. Sculptra works beautifully and gradually by stimulating your skin’s own collagen production, so you’ll slowly see the improvements as the weeks and months go by. Sculptra is sometimes called “a liquid facelift.” Sculptra is unique. Unlike Botox and Dysport treatments, the client is encouraged to lightly massage the treatment sites for even distribution and to spread the collagen-stimulating product around to work its magic.

The most common treatment areas

  • Smile lines
  • “Marionette” lines
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Jawline
  • Lines around the nostrils (nasolabial folds)
  • Sculptra is even used to plump and smooth the glutes!- a Sculptra “BBL.”

What to expect

During your Botox appointment at NK Aesthetics, we will discuss your goals and areas of concern. Your provider will examine your facial movement and dose your Botox or Dysport based on muscle mass and strength. Your provider will strategically mark injection spots on your face, draw up your patient specific dose, and inject using a tiny needle. There is little to no discomfort! The injections only take just a couple minutes, with the appointment lasting only about 30 minutes, you can be in and out of the office quickly! Results will start to take effect in 5-14 days, with results lasting 3 months on average! You’re left with a clear and radiant complexion!

Frequently Asked Questions

With Sculptra, you must have several treatments over the course of a few months, but once the treatments “take hold” the effects can last up to 2 years or more.
Yes. Sculptra is a filler that works with your own body’s collagen production to plump and and smooth treatment areas over time.
Approved by the FDA 18 years ago, Sculptra is considered safe.
Sculptra has many uses: To fill out a weakening or uneven jawline, to fill in too-hollow cheeks for a fuller look, to fill out the chin area, and it can even be used to plump the glutes, among other things.
Sculptra is a volumizer, so anywhere that you have deep lines or hollows that you want filled out, can be injected with Sculptra. Anywhere you feel is lacking volume, or is “uneven” can be treated with Sculptra.
A Sculptra BBL can last up to 2 years or even longer.
Like any dermal filler, Sculptra is temporary, but it’s one of the longest lasting fillers on the market.
While Sculptra is a little costlier than acid-based fillers, many find the longer lasting effects worth it.
Requiring about 3-4 treatments over the course of several months, the effects will be more and more noticable each time. It works gradually but effects are longer lasting than most fillers, and after about 2 years, it’s suggested the client only need return for touch-ups about once/year.
No studies have been conducted regarding the long-term effects of Sculptra. The ingredients are not known to cause cancers though. It is always best to be informed the best we can and consider all the risks/benefits before deciding on any cosmetic procedures.
Most practitioners recommend waiting at least 24 hours before exercising.
