What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is a bit different from filler; it is a bio-stimulator made out of a synthetic Poly-L-lactic acid material. Sculptra®, unlike filler, works gradually for natural results by stimulating your skin’s own collagen production, so you’ll start to see results over a period of 6-8 weeks. Sculptra® is typically used to rejuvenate the whole face and is done in 2-3 sessions done about 6 weeks apart. A consultation is recommended prior to Sculptra® injections.

Sculptra® FAQ's

With Sculptra, you must have several treatments over the course of a few months, but once the treatments “take hold” the effects can last up to 2 years or more.
Sculptra is different from a filler as results are gradual and build over time. After Scultpra is injected, it is removed by your body within a couple months. You are only left with your body’s own collagen, so it is completely biodegradable and biocompatible.
Approved by the FDA 18 years ago, Sculptra is considered safe.
Sculptra is typically used to rejuvenate the whole face. It helps restore age related volume loss and skin elasticity. It is typically done in 2-3 sessions, about 5 weeks apart.
Sculptra restores age related volume loss, so it is typically injected into the lower face. Ex. Cheek hollows, smile lines, chin area.
A Sculptra BBL can last up to 2 years or even longer.
Scultpra studies have shown it lasts for at least 2 years.
While the Sculptra process tends to be more expensive than dermal fillers, Sculptra is definitely worth it. We like to think of it as a 401K for your face! We lose about 1% of collagen after the age of 20. By the time we are 45, about 25% of collagen has been lost! Sculptra is like fertilizer (of collagen) for your face!
Requiring about 3-4 treatments over the course of several months, the effects will be more and more noticable each time. It works gradually but effects are longer lasting than most fillers, and after about 2 years, it’s suggested the client only need return for touch-ups about once/year.
No studies have been conducted regarding the long-term effects of Sculptra. The ingredients are not known to cause cancers though. It is always best to be informed the best we can and consider all the risks/benefits before deciding on any cosmetic procedures.
It is best to wait 24 hours before any exercise, as to prevent any excessive swelling or increase bruising.
If you are looking to reverse or slow the aging process, produce new collagen, and undo any hollowness in your face as a result of aging, you are a potential candidate. A consultation at NK Aesthetics is required to see if the treatment will benefit you and your aesthetic goals. The treatment is both safe and effective so long as you are not allergic to any of its ingredients or have any pre-existing medical conditions that result in irregular scarring.
Sculptra injections are very tolerable. The injections cause mild, temporary discomfort, and feel similar to a slight pinching sensation. A “pushing and pulling” sensation with some pressure is typically felt. Sculptra is pre-mixed with lidocaine; so you may feel a slight burning sensation. A topical numbing agent can be applied prior to injections as well to ease any discomfort.
After your Sculptra injections at NK Aesthetics in Scottsdale, mild swelling, soreness, red bumps or bruising may appear after injections; However, any redness tends to dissipate shortly after treatment and makeup can be gently applied after 24 hours. Bruising and swelling may last up to 48-72 hours after injections. You may experience tenderness at injection site for a few days after your treatment. For discomfort you may take Tylenol. Arnica creams can be topically applied to aid bruising, swelling and pain after treatment. IMPORTANT: You must massage each treated area for, FIVE minutes, FIVE times each day, for FIVE days. Arnica gel may be used for massage to help reduce bruising, pain and swelling. Massage may be easiest when you are cleansing or moisturizing your face.
Sculptra is not safe for those who are those with bleeding disorders or other health problems. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not a candidate for Sculptra injections.
